Prosecutors who open Mogul Harvey Harvey Weinstein and the re -proceedings of the sexual assault describe on Wednesday how he ignored the words of his victims to stop and abuse his position to make them “feel little”, AFP said.
The trial, which began with the selection of the jury last week, will see the survivors who have helped to trigger the “Metoo” movement to testify to Weinstein once again.
Former Miramax Studio leader is accused of sexual assault by former 2006 Mimi Haleyi production assistant and rape of aspiring actress Jessica Mann. It also faces a new count for a 19 -year -old alleged sexual attack in 2006.
Assistant Prosecutor Shannon Lucey talked about Weinstein’s supposed attacks in graphic details, saying that all three women begged him to stop, but that he had “all the power … made all these women feel small”.
The prosecutor described how Weinstein threw Haleyi with multiple massage demands and sexual demands before being alone with him in an apartment one day in 2006.
“The defendant, three times (her size), kissed her, hit her and told him again that she was not interested,” Lucey said.
“He pulled Mimi to him … He quickly realized that he would not get a no answer,” the prosecutor added.
Lucey describes in detail how Weinstein was forced to Haleyi, performing oral sex in it despite the reasons to stop.
The award -winning film producer, who was introduced to the Manhattan Criminal Court in a wheelchair and wearing a dark business suit, looked at the jury occasionally as the trial began.
Lucey described the defendant as “one of the strongest men in … appearance of business”, saying in the majority-a jury that “when he wanted something, he got it”.
‘Fresh eyes’
Kaja Sokola, who was not part of the previous trial, was an aspiring 19 -year -old model and claiming that Weinstein sexually attacked her in a hotel in Manhattan.
The defendants describe Impresario as a predator who used his perch at the top of the film industry to push actors and assistants for sexual favorable, often in hotel rooms.
However, Arthur Aidala, a Weinstein defense lawyer, stressed that the prosecution’s inaugural statement was not “the whole film”, arguing that the jury would not hear any indication of the use of force or lack of consent.
She said Mann had introduced Weinstein to her mother after the supposed rape and that Haleyi had “consensual sex” with Weinstein after her alleged attack.
“He is not guilty, not guilty, not guilty,” he told the jury.
After the opening of the statements, the testimonies began and will continue when the judicial proceedings continue on Thursday.
The presentation of the evidence in the re -registration is expected to take five to six weeks.
Weinstein’s convictions in 2020 over Haleyi and Mann were overthrown last year by the New York Court of Appeal, which ruled that the way the witnesses handled the New York initial trial was illegal.
The 73 -year -old said he hoped that his case would be judged by “fresh eyes”, more than seven years after his spectacular fall and a global reaction against predator criminals.
Weinstein is already serving a 16 -year prison sentence after being convicted of rape and attacking a European actor a decade ago.
More than 80 defendants
The producer of a series of box office hits such as gender, lies and videotape, fiction and Shakespeare in love, Weinstein has faced health issues.
He never recognized any injustice and always argued that the meetings were consensual.
Since his fall, Weinstein was accused of harassment, sexual assault or rape by more than 80 women, such as Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lupita Nyong’o and Ashley Judd.
A New Yorkers jury sentenced him to two of the five categories-Haleyi’s sexual assault and the rape of Mann-in 2020, but the conviction and 23-year-old imprisonment was overthrown a year ago.
In a highly debated ruling of four to three, the New York Court of Appeal decided that the judges should not have heard testimonies of accused of alleged sexual attacks for which Weinstein was not accused.
