Washington: The United States will develop 200 troops as part of a joint Gaza stability group without Americans on the ground in the Palestinian enclave, two US senior officials said on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters under the condition of anonymity, officials said that 200 would be the core of a working group that will include representatives from the Egyptian army, Qatar, Turkey and perhaps the United Arab Emirates.
Officials said the exact location of US troops had not yet been decided. But they will develop a common control center and incorporate other security forces that will operate in Gaza to coordinate with Israeli forces to avoid conflicts.
“No US military is meant to go to Gaza,” one of the officials said.
Responding to a social media position, White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that up to 200 existing Centcom staff will attend a ceasefire with the international forces.
The clarification by a White House spokesman addresses the first phase of an Israel-Hamas agreement announced by President Trump on October 8, 2025, which includes hostages and partial withdrawal of Israel from Gaza, as approved by the Council of Israel today.
Officials have said that we hope that the Gaza Agreement, once in motion, will cool tensions in the area and create conditions for negotiations for more normalization agreements between Israel and the Arab nations.
US President Donald Trump, in his first term, carried out the known as Abraham – normalization agreements between Israel and Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Sudan.
Officials said Saudi Arabia is a candidate for such an agreement with Israel, as well as Indonesia, Mauritania, Algeria, Syria and Lebanon.
