Shanti, 19, reportedly underwent severe physical abuse by her husband in Lyari before succumbing to her injuries to the Political Hospital’s wounds on Wednesday. He had been married for just more than two weeks when the alleged abuse happened.
According to police, a FIR registered on July 5th over the complaint of the victim’s brother, Saiyon. The suspect, Ashok, the son of Mohan, was detained shortly after the complaint was submitted and remains in prison as investigations continue.
FIR says Shanti married Ashok on June 16th. Just one day after marriage, again on June 18, he allegedly underwent violent physical violence.
As soon as she returned to her family home on June 30 due to deterioration of health, she trusted her brother for the test. She claimed that Ashok had bitten her many times and threatened to kill her if she spoke.
Saiyon told the police that after deteriorating Shanti’s situation, her laws first took her to a private hospital, but returned her to her family when there was no improvement.
On July 4, she brought her to the Cultural Hospital’s wound center, where she remained treated until her death.
PS Baghdadi Sho Majid Alvi confirmed the arrest, stating that Ashok was detained shortly after FIR’s conviction. “The defendant is currently in prison and is underway further investigation,” he added.
