Los Angeles:
Warner Bros Discovery said on Monday that it would split into two companies, separating studios and flow businesses from weakened cable television networks, as the parent of HBO and CNN seems to compete better with streaming season.
Dissolution is the last sign of the large spread of decades of integration of the media that created worldwide bands that cover content creation, distribution and in some cases telecommunications.
The strategic reinstatement will provide the Warner Bros Discovery continuous flow unit more space for the scale, producing studio content without confusing the fall of cable networks.
Managing Director David Zaslav will lead Streaming and Studios after being dismantled, while CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels will head the Global Networks.
“With the operation of two separate and optimized companies in the future, we are reinforcing these virtual brands with the most intense focus and strategy flexibility they need to compete more effectively in the current evolving media landscape,” Zaslav said.
The company had laid the foundations for a possible sale or posting of reduced cable television assets in December, announcing a separation from continuous and studio functions.
The division will align the company with Comcast, which is removed from most of the cable television networks such as MSNBC and CNBC.
Bank of America’s research analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich said Warner Bros Discovery’s cable TV assets are a “very reasonable partner” for Comcast’s new Spin-Off company.
WBD also said Monday that bids began bids for restructuring its existing debt, funded by a $ 17.5 billion bridge facility provided by JP Morgan.
The bridge loan is expected to be refinanced in front of the scheduled separation, he said, adding that global networks will maintain up to 20 percent share of streaming and studios, which plans to make money for further debt reduction. Reuters
