The United States has rejected an alternative reconstruction plan for Gaza backed by Arab leaders, insisting that President Donald Trump stands with his own proposal, which includes the relocation of Palestinian residents and the conversion of the pocket to a coastal zone.
In a statement on Tuesday night, National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes said that the proposal supported by Arabic “does not actually address that Gaza is currently uninhabited”. He added that Trump remains committed to rebuilding Gaza “free from Hamas” and looks forward to further conversations.
The plan supported by Arabic, which led Egypt, provides Hamas control of Gaza in a temporary administration until he assumes a reformed Palestinian authority (PA). Unlike Trump’s proposal, it would allow 2 million Palestinian residents of Gaza to remain.
At a summit in Cairo, the president of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas pledged to hold elections on the west bank of Gaza and occupied East Jerusalem for the first time in two decades – allowing the conditions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to describe his post -war vision of Gaza, but supports Trump’s plan for a “different gauze”. He has rejected both Hamas and PA as future pocket leaders.
The Arab proposal of $ 53 billion, with the completion of the 2030 target, prioritizes the removal of non -select guns and clearing over 50 million tonnes of ruins left by Israeli bombing.
The plan is expected to be presented to President Trump in the coming weeks, according to Jordan officials.
While the Arab nations have largely approved Egypt’s proposal, key players remain absent. Saudi Arabia and the UAE, critical financial supporters for any reconstruction effort, did not attend the Cairo Summit. Meanwhile, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune boycuts talks, criticizing them as dominated by a “limited group” of the Arab states.
A CNN -leaking document describes ambitious reconstruction plans, including shopping centers, an international conference center, an airport and coastal resorts to attract tourism.
However, the proposal recognizes the challenge of disarming the fighters in Gaza, stating that it can only be addressed through a credible political process.
Hamas Senior Sami Abu Zuhri employee has consistently rejected any proposal that the team would disarm in return for reconstruction.
“The resistance weapon is a red line and it is not negotiable,” he told Reuters.
Hamas sent mixed signals about the role of governance in Gaza. While some officials have proposed the willingness to leave, they insist that any transition must be treated internally without foreign intervention.
The fragile ceasefire in Gaza, in its place since January, remains uncertain. Israel supports an alternative to the US to expand the truce and negotiate the release of hostages taken in the attack on Hamas 7 October.
However, Israel has also prevented basic supplies, such as food, fuel and the drug to pressure Hamas in accepting terms – with international criticism and increasing renewed conflict fears.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, speaking at the Summit, confirmed that “true peace” cannot be achieved without an independent Palestinian state-a result strongly opposed by the Israeli government and much of its political leadership.
