London: UK legislators are expected to vote on Tuesday on the revision of abortions in England and Wales, which will end the contested prosecutions of women to end pregnancy.
Currently, a woman may face criminal charges for the choice to terminate a pregnancy after 24 weeks or without the approval of two doctors, in accordance with laws that are technically still carrying a maximum prison sentence.
The issue has attracted attention to the United Kingdom because of recent judicial affairs. One woman was cleared by a jury at trial, while another was released from prison in appeal.
A proposal that emerged from the work of MP Tonia Antoniazzi seeks to change the law to ensure that no woman will commit an offense by terminating her own pregnancy at any time.
“Women were currently arrested by a hospital bed in the police hive and face criminal investigations for suspicion that they are ending their own pregnancy,” Antoniazzi said AFP.
“My amendment will stop this,” he said, adding that it was “the correct amendment at the right time,” he gave.

The 45 -year -old told judges during her trial, which came after a four -year police investigation, that she did not realize she had been pregnant for so long.
“It was frightening to give evidence. Absolutely awful,” he said The guardian newspaper last month.
However, the company for the protection of unborn children has called the proposed amendment “the biggest threat to unborn babies for decades”.
‘Widespread support’
Antoniazzi’s amendment would not change any of the laws on the provision of abortion services, including deadlines. And anyone who helps a woman get an abortion outside the land of the law, such as doctors, will still be responsible for prosecution.
About 50 organizations, including abortions, medical college and women’s rights groups, supported the amendment.
They say that six women appeared in court in England who are accused of ending or trying to end their own pregnancy outside the abortion law for the past three years.
Carla Foster was imprisoned in 2023 for the illegal acquisition of abortions to end her pregnancy when she was between 32 and 34 weeks pregnant. The Court of Appeal eventually suspended her sentence.
About 140 MPs in the 650 -seat parliament have publicly supported the change.
He has “he has widespread support from MPs throughout the political spectrum and I am optimistic that the public will support it,” Antoniazzi said.
Legislators will have a free vote, which means they can decide on the basis of their views, not what their party tells them.
