The Italian festival drops the pipeline aligned by Putin

Caserta’s Royal Palace announced on Monday that it is canceling a Pro-Kremlin Maestro Valery Gergiev weekend concert-a voice supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin-after turmoil from AFP politicians and critics.

Gergiev did not condemn Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, a stop he was fired by the Munich Philharmonic in March 2022. He has not played a concert in Europe since.

The scheduled concert in the 18th century Palace near Naples – now a museum – had caused an intense debate in Italy, with Ukraine condemning Russia’s movement and exiled opposition calling for protests.

Days of uncertainty about whether the concert will take place ended with a sharp cancellation.

“Caserta’s royal palace address ordered the cancellation of the Symphony Concert held by Valery Gergiev, scheduled for part of the Un’esstate da Re re festival for July 27,” the palace said in a brief statement.

He did not give any official reason for the cancellation.

The group of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny welcomed the cancellation of social media with a “Hurray!”

“Putin’s friends should not tour all over Europe, as nothing happened,” they said in a statement.

Moscow’s ambassador to Italy, Alexei Paramonov, however, hit the movement as a “scandalous situation”.

In a statement on the Russian embassy’s Facebook account, Paramonov broke the Western policies’ policy on the “cancellation” of Russian culture “.

He also said it was “sad” to watch Italy “to submit its cultural policy to the demands of Ukrainians and other immigrants.”

Russia’s state -run news agency said Gergiev was not informed of the decision, saying the pipeline saying: “I don’t have this information.”

‘Common sense’

Italian Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli – who had warned earlier that the concert was in danger of turning into a propaganda event – said the cancellation was “common sense” and aims to “protect the values of the free world”.

The 72-year-old Gergiev-recognized as one of the leading conductors in the world-is known for conducting Piotr Tchaikovsky, among other successes in Western Operations.

For decades, he has been one of Putin’s most vocal supporters.

A 2016 concert is famous for the ruins of Palmyra in Syria after being arrested by the Russian forces in Syria.

He also held a triumphant concert in the Tskhinvali area of Georgia after the Russian invasion in 2008, just a few meters from a detention center where Georgian citizens are held.

Gergiev also supported the Kremlin’s 2014 annexation for the Crimean Peninsula.

The pipeline has remained silent for the invasion of Ukraine and especially outside the public eye since 2022, but has played concerts in Asia.

He is believed to have personal ties with Putin.

In 2023, Putin named him as director of the Moscow Bolshoi historical theater, and was already head of the Mariinsky Theater of St. Petersburg.

Russia’s cultural figures have been separated from Ukraine’s invasion – with many supporting the Kremlin, while others have gone to exile to denounce the military attack.
