The Internet is obsessed with PTI’s Gohar, Marwat

Millions of registered Pakistani citizens over the age of 18 participated in the country’s general election on Thursday. Marked by the suspension of mobile phone services and unusual delays in election results, the country’s return to the electoral process in 2024 remains deeply mired in allegations of fraud and uncertainty.

In these unusual times, citizens, as usual, hit the Internet with humor, as a photo of two political figures becomes the latest modern standard for hilarious memes. A candid of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Senior Vice Chairman Sher Afzal Marwat from a recent press conference is doing the rounds, with many noting an interesting contrast in their demeanor.

Marwat, who took the internet by storm last week with some fiery speeches to his constituents, is seen wearing a serious expression in the picture, while Gohar calmly addresses the press. In a comical twist, a user on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) drew parallels between Marwat’s concern and Gohar’s relative ease and the elder daughter’s attitude towards the other siblings.

“I don’t know how to explain it, but Sher Afzal Marwat can be cast as the main character of a Netflix show and I’d really watch it,” another X user opined about the politician’s inexplicable charm. PTI’s senior vice president’s cinematic potential was supported by another who remarked, “Hamza Ali Abbasi could play [Marwat] right in a movie.”

According to another, Gohar and Marwat relay the ’12 AM personalities. and 1 p.m.” respectively, embodying the all-too-familiar struggles of all-nighters recklessly going about their day.

For those who find nothing remarkable about the two men standing together, netizens posted two separate photos of the politicians, side by side, to further highlight their different vibes. A brightly lit photo of Gohar wearing a slightly frowny pink background has been dubbed ‘Barbie’ by some alongside a blurry shot of Marwat as ‘Oppenheimer’, displaying a raw expression, signaling the return of the viral Barbenheimer 2023 meme.

One post insisted that Gohar’s behavior is typical of how boys are seen in girls’ company, while Marwat’s tough approach is more suited when boys hang out with other boys. Others hint at a good-boy-bad-boy analogy with the PTI chairman being shelved as the former. “You vs the man who tells you not to worry,” read one post.
