The number of deaths in a collapse of the Indonesian School increased to 17 on Saturday, officials said, as rescuers developed heavy machinery to recover dozens of more victims who believed they were still fed under the ruins.

Part of the high -rise boarding house suddenly collapsed on Monday, as the students gathered for afternoon prayers.

Rescuers discovered two bodies and part of the body from the ruins on Saturday, dead at 17, said Basarnas, Yudhi Bramantyo, said in a statement.

The head of the local Nanang Sigit search and rescue organization confirmed the updated tax in a separate statement.

Earlier on Saturday, authorities said they had recovered nine bodies on Friday.

Rescuers were looking for 49 people still missing, the head of the National Disaster Metric Service (BNPB) previously stated before the recovery of the last bodies.

More victims can be found, said Suharyanto, who, like many Indonesians, only goes with one name, as rescuers have brought heavy machinery to clean the sites where the victims are believed to be buried under the ruins.

“After the last victim he was found last night, we focus on a huge cleaning, with heavy equipment entering the collapsing areas,” he said, as reported by the Kompas TV broadcast.
