Talha Anjam has received a legal notice from a Pakistani citizen after he displayed the Indian flag at a concert in Kathmandu, Nepal last week.
The statement claims that the rapper has allegedly “caused widespread outrage, mental anguish and deep injury to the national, patriotic and religious sentiments of millions of Pakistani citizens both at home and abroad, exacerbating existing tensions between Pakistan and India, where diplomatic and military relations remain severely strained due to historical conflicts, border disputes.”
The legal notice demands an “unreserved public apology” from Anjum. It warns that “non-compliance will result, without further notice: Filing of FIR and criminal charges.”
Fans online took issue with this outrage. “Loved it when Sidhu moose wala and others waved Pakistan flag,” wrote one user. “What’s up with that now?” Another asked him to stand in his place. “He should never apologize…” they wrote. “It was a goodwill gesture. He didn’t harm the country in any way. He should stand tall in his decision.” However, some remained outraged and supported the announcement. “Amazing,” one user quipped. “They’re killing our soldiers, insulting our country, and all the goodwill goes to them? A truly amazing step.”
The rapper sparked widespread online controversy after he caught an Indian flag from the crowd thrown at him by a fan. The singer then picked up and wrapped the flag around him. After backlash, the rapper didn’t apologize for it. “My heart has no room for hate,” he wrote on social media. “Art has no borders. If I raise an Indian flag and stir up controversy, so be it. I’ll do it again. Never mind the media, warlords and their propaganda. Urdu rap is and always will be borderless.”
Fans on both sides of the border were divided over this act. Some called out Anjum for supporting India despite its public hostility towards Pakistan. “India is doing its best to spread terrorism in Pakistan,” wrote one X user. “They even killed innocent Pakistanis while Talha Anjum is busy raising and wearing an Indian flag. India even banned his YouTube. What else can you expect from an Imran Khan supporter?”
However, the singer’s fans also applauded his bold act. “What Talha Anjum has done is commendable,” wrote one Indian fan. “Even though he’s done for views, he knows the ramifications that Pakistanis will hate for it, he did it anyway.”
