Installation of power plants near industrial zones

KARACHI: From the time of the 5,000-year-old Mohenjo Daro to the 21st century, the vast territory of this peninsula remains the cradle of the Indus Valley Civilization. The Indus or Sindhu Darya, since it originates in Ladakh, flows a thousand miles to join the salty waters of the Arabian Sea, containing the erosion of the coastal region as well as supporting the ecology. Although this oil-importing nation is blessed with the mighty Indian, its decision-makers, instead of pumping in cheap power through hydel plants, have chosen to generate costly electricity through thermal plants and make the public foot the bill.

China is adding wind, solar power equal to five nuclear plants a week

A report by Sydney-based think tank Climate Energy Finance (CEF) said China is installing renewables so fast that it will meet its end-2030 target by the end of this month — or 6.5 years early. It installs at least 10 gigawatts of wind and solar generation capacity every fortnight. By comparison, experts said the Coalition’s plan to build seven nuclear stations would add less than 10GW of generating capacity to the grid sometime after 2035. Energy experts are looking to China, the world’s biggest polluter and once considered a climate villain, for lessons on how to go green, fast. China

Most wind, solar plants are built in China

BEIJING: Nearly two-thirds of the world’s large wind and solar farms under construction are in China, where growing renewable energy capacity has pushed coal’s share of generation to new lows, a survey released Thursday showed. China is building 339 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar power, or 64% of the global total, according to a report by the US-based think tank Global Energy Monitor (GEM). That’s more than eight times the project pipeline of the second-placed US, at 40 GW. China’s pace makes the global goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by the end of 2030 “well within reach” even

Although this decision will increase end-consumer prices, it will accurately

Major Russian airstrikes destroy Kiev power plant, damage other plants

Kyiv: Russian missiles and drones destroyed a large power plant near Kiev and hit power facilities in several regions of Ukraine on Thursday, officials said, increasing pressure on the wartime energy system as Kiev runs out of air defenses. Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow was obliged to launch the strikes in response to Ukrainian attacks in recent weeks on energy targets inside
