Jamaat-e-Islami held sit-ins in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and other cities for a second day. In Thursday's review the government raised the diesel levy by another rupee to Rs77.28 a litre, with petrol held at Rs80.

Jamaat-e-Islami held simultaneous sit-ins in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta against the petroleum levy and inflation. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman called the levy a "jagga tax" and repeated the demand for petrol at Rs225 a litre.

JI chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has announced sit-ins outside the Chief Minister House in Punjab and Governor Houses in the other three provinces on August 16, escalating the party's campaign against fuel prices and the petroleum levy.

Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Karachi mayor, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman addressing a press conference said that Jamaat-e-Islami mandate was robbed—an act he termed as shameful. He claimed people voted JI for the development of the city. “We had the 192 while PPP had 173 voters,” he claimed. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman vowed to go to court and also announces to take to the streets. Hafiz Naeem said robbery on the people’s mandate was unacceptable. “31 people were abducted and tortured,” he alleged.
