OGRA's July 21 daily petroleum price notification produced a split revision: petrol (motor spirit) fell Rs0.35 to Rs315.80 per litre, while high-speed diesel rose Rs5.71 to Rs360.06 per litre. The divergence reflects different movement in the international benchmark prices for the two products over the preceding seven-day average period. It is the fourth daily revision since the new OGRA mechanism came into force on July 18, and the first to show petrol and diesel moving in opposite directions.

Pakistan's daily OGRA petroleum pricing mechanism delivered its first downward revision on July 20, its third day of operation, as international oil prices softened relative to the seven-day average that governs the formula. Petrol fell from Rs316.15 to approximately Rs310.71 per litre. The fall contradicts the narrative of critics who described the daily mechanism purely as a vehicle for price increases — and demonstrates the symmetric design of the system — but the government's initial notice covered only July 18–20, and a fresh notification is now required for July 21.

The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has rejected the government's daily petroleum pricing mechanism introduced on July 18, warning it will launch protests and a nationwide strike as early as next week if the decision is not withdrawn. The threat comes a day after Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik chaired a stakeholder meeting at which the Oil Companies Advisory Council and oil marketing companies broadly supported the deregulation direction. The mechanism, under which OGRA publishes daily prices based on a seven-day Platts average, represents the first major restructuring of Pakistan's fuel pricing system in two decades.

Pakistan's Ministry of Energy reduced the retail price of petrol (RON-92/MS) by Rs1.97 per litre to Rs297.53 effective July 4, following an OGRA recommendation. High-speed diesel was similarly reduced by Rs1.97 to Rs309.50 per litre. The next revision is due on July 10 under the government's weekly fuel pricing schedule.
