Further hike of Rs 3.5 per unit pricing in the near future

Islamabad: Electricity consumers should brace themselves for another hefty hike in tariffs of up to Rs 3.53 per unit due to fuel charge adjustment (FCA). In this regard, the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (Nepra) held a public hearing on Wednesday but reserved its decision which will be issued after checking the data. If the entire impact of the fuel price hike is passed on to consumers, they will bear an additional burden of Rs 40 billion. Even protected consumers using 200 units of electricity per month will see their monthly bills rise by Rs 650-700 due to the tariff hike.

The electricity industry calls for the publication of vital reports

Islamabad: Frustration is growing among electricity industry stakeholders over significant delays in the release of critical reports from the energy regulator, which are essential for informed decision-making. In particular, the absence of timely data hinders the efficient operation of the sector. The World Bank’s Public Expenditure Review report highlights the urgent need for IT mechanisms that can produce timely and aggregated data on state-owned enterprises (SOEs). This is considered vital to fast-track critical decision-making processes, including the impending privatization of XWDISCOs. The World Bank has actively supported the divestment of SOE shares on the stock market as a practical solution
