PM Shehbaz invites investors to invest in Pakistan’s clean energy & infrastructure opportunities

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called upon governments to strengthen climate financing and technology sharing. Addressing the World Governments Summit in Dubai, he urged private investors to explore Pakistan’s clean energy and infrastructure opportunities. He said multilateral institutions should support emerging economies like Pakistan in achieving sustainable growth. The Prime Minister said Pakistan is fully committed to mobilizing domestic resources and policy reforms. However, international partnerships and financial support remain critical to achieving this goal as global shift to a green economy requires a shared responsibility. He said Pakistan’s energy transition alone demands hundred billion dollars in investment. Shehbaz Sharif

COP29 achieves full operationalisation of Article 6 of Paris Agreement – Unlocks International Carbon Markets

November: Today, the COP29 Presidency announced the end of the decade-long wait for the conclusion of negotiations on high integrity carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This was one of the Presidency’s top priorities for the year and it drove Parties towards this milestone achievement through intensive dual-track technical and political negotiations. This strategy broke through years of stalemate and finalises the last outstanding item in the Paris Agreement. Article 6 provides trusted and transparent carbon markets for countries as they collaborate to reach their climate goals. This cross-border cooperation is expected to reduce the cost of

COP Truce: A call for global unity to address climate and conflict

This year, the world has convened in Baku for COP29, a historic event that offers a chance to significantly advance the global climate agenda. Yet COP29 brings more than a platform for discussions and pledges; it introduces an unprecedented call to action known as the “COP Truce”, urging nations to halt military operations during the month of the conference. This appeal, inspired by the Olympic Truce, represents a powerful initiative from the COP29 Presidency, designed to foster peace, environmental preservation, and the global fight against climate change. The COP Truce draws its inspiration from the Olympic Truce, which has been

The True Cost of Emissions

As COP29 approaches, Pakistan stands ready not just as a participant but as a nation carrying the burden of a crisis it did little to cause. The world’s leaders will soon converge to address climate change and yet, for Pakistan, this summit is not merely about dialogue, it is about survival. After floods devastated a third of the country, submerging homes, destroying livelihoods, and casting millions into despair, Pakistan brings a plea to COP29 that goes beyond politics. It is a call for justice, a demand that the international community recognizes the enormous price climate change has inflicted on countries

China is devising updated carbon measurement standards to boost its climate initiatives

BEIJING: China announced plans on Wednesday to better measure the carbon content of its products – a key step in meeting its own climate goals and meeting stricter carbon standards abroad. The new “carbon footprint management system” outlined by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will take effect in 2027, setting standards for measuring carbon emissions for about 100 key products across the Chinese economy, according to a policy document. Initially, China’s calculation standards will apply to high-emitting products such as coal and natural gas as well as exports such as steel, aluminum, lithium batteries and electric vehicles. The ministry
