Lahore:
As Punjab is rolling under the worst floods in four decades, voices from Pakistan’s entertainment industry joined the national outcry – offering prayers, prompting action and creating alarm for recurring crises that have destroyed them.
The torrential rainfall in combination with rivers overflow-RAVI, SUTLEJ and Chenab between the worst bumps-have left whole sites sunk. According to the provincial disaster management authorities, millions of people have been affected as water is released by the Indian dams added to the crisis unfolding from heavy torrential rains.
The disaster not only re -examined political disputes, but also forced many to the Pakistani cultural community to speak. From honest prayers to alleviate the government’s criticism, the actors, singers and media personalities use their platforms to enhance the difficulty of the offended.
Among the most vocals was singer Hadiqa Kiani, who has previously pioneered Vaseela’s campaign during 2022 Balochistan floods. He gave an emotional appeal to Instagram, urging communities along the vulnerable rivers to evacuate.
“My request for people living in these settlements is that they take these notifications seriously and are trying to move from there,” he said in a video message. “Take your valuables and try to find shelter elsewhere so that your life and the life of your loved ones are not at stake.”
Kiani reminded the fans the seriousness of the threat: “Pakistan is going through a difficult time … Water levels are constantly increasing.” Its warning reiterated official evacuation orders as the army was developed in various areas, such as Lahore, Casure and Fiasalabad.
The actors also took the social media to provide support. Veteran artist Nadia Afgan called on the public to generously donate relief chapters. Adnan Siddiqui published a simple but painful desire: “Your homes, your families, your land.
Neelam Muneer Khan shared a prayer for the protection of families that broke in flooded areas, while Ahmed Ali Butt hit a more frustrated tone. “Floods happen throughout Punjab, the state of emergency has been declared in most places. This is happening every year and God forbids to do a barrier or to do something to save all this water. He wrote.
Other celebrities used the moment to highlight systematic failures. Actress Anoushey Ashraf criticized the tendency of political leaders to prioritize the readiness. “Our leadership must increase beyond promises and speeches. Nature does not expect anyone,” he wrote.
Ahsan Mohsin Ikram underlined the infrastructure as a missing link. “The only solution in this is to invest in building more small and large dams. All rivers along the rivers should be removed as illegal settlements are one of the largest reasons why people are killed in controlled floods.”
Not all messages were criticized. Mawra Hocane addressed compassion and perspective: “Please, please be kind to everyone around you. Life is only as beautiful and important as you do … prayers for everyone in Sialkot and other areas of Punjab.”
In X, the artist and activist Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr praised the courage of ordinary citizens. “When this flood is over, there will be many heroes who would have risked life and end to save their foreigners, loved ones and speechless.
The disaster inevitably revived the debate on climate readiness, water management and the hostility of India. India is exacerbating the situation by releasing excess water in the rivers of Pakistan without coordination, officials say, violate the Indian water condition.
In the meantime, the human cost of mounts. The families in Lahore, Casure and Narowal tell the dead of the night with a little more than the clothes on their backs. The agricultural land – the backbone of Punjab’s economy – lies were destroyed under flood waters, the animals they lost and the houses are flushed.
Critics say that the government should adopt long -term strategies: barrier investment, river protection, improved urban drainage and climate resistance. Until then, the cycle of destruction and reactive relief continues. As celebrities give their voices to the displaced, the real question remains in flood waters: will Pakistan finally move from prayers to planning?
