LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (N) President Mian Shehbaz Sharif has approached the Lahore high court to seek bail in the money laundering case against him.
Atta Tarar, Shehbaz’s lawyer, filed a petition in Lahore high court. The petition says that no corruption charges have been proven against his client.
Tarar claims that Mian Shehbaz Sharif has been imprisoned for months and the court should order his release.
“NAB has taken all relevant records from him, they haven’t many any recoveries”, the PML-N leader claimed.
NAB has accused Shehbaz Sharif of laundering money and owning more assets than his known sources of income.
Previously, Shebaz’s son Hamza Shahbaz was released from the Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore after 20 months.
Hamza’s release orders were issued by the accountability court’s duty judge after two surety bonds of Rs one million each was verified.
Hamza was arrested by NAB on June 11, 2019, in Ramzan sugar mills, money laundering and assets beyond means cases after LHC turned down his applications for extension in interim bail.
On November 11, 2020, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif and his father Mian Shehbaz Sharif were indicted in a money-laundering reference by the accountability court.
