Salman Khan’s ‘Tiger 3’ faces Qatar, Oman ban: reports

In a surprising turn of events, the recently released Hindi language action film Tiger 3 has been embroiled in controversy as it reportedly faces a ban in several Gulf countries, including Qatar and Oman. Mashable Middle East quoted it Middle East Observatorysuggesting the ban was reportedly linked to concerns about the film’s negative portrayal of Muslims.

Other sources, such as Sleepy, suggest that the controversy may be linked to a particular scene in which the film’s star Katrina Kaif is seen getting into a fight, as mentioned in the trailer. As a result, the ban has raised eyebrows and sparked debates on social media platforms, with speculation surrounding the reasons behind this decision.

While initial reports hinted that the ban was being extended to Kuwait, later information reveals that Tiger 3 is, in fact, available at Vox Cinemas Kuwait. The film, however, remains unreleased in Vox cinemas in Qatar and Oman. Vox Cinemas is screening the action epic in other Gulf countries including the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Mashable Middle East mentionted.

“The film has been approved by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India, but has faced objections from the governments and censor boards of Islamic countries,” Box Office Worldwide said, according to the Sleepy. “The makers are yet to comment on the ban or the possibility of making changes to the films. The ban is expected to affect the overseas collections of the films as the Gulf countries are a major market for Bollywood films.”

Tiger 3, part of the YRF Spy Universe, boasts an ensemble cast with Salman Khan and Katrina as the leads, Tiger and Zoya, respectively. Emraan Hashmi plays the role of the antagonist, portraying the leader of a global terrorist organization in this spy thriller.

Released during Diwali, Tiger 3 It made box office history by becoming the highest grossing Diwali release. Despite its domestic and global success, the ban in key Gulf countries raises questions about the delicate balance filmmakers must strike to ensure their content is culturally sensitive and avoids international controversy.

So far, the producers of the bid have not issued statements about the ban or whether they plan to make changes to the film to address the concerns raised by the Gulf states. The unfolding situation will undoubtedly affect the film’s performance in the international market and spark a wider debate about the cultural nuances that filmmakers navigate in search of a global audience.
