The National Electricity Regulatory Authority approved an increase in RS0.08 per unit at electricity prices below the monthly fuel cost adjustment for August 2025.
According to a notification issued by Nepra on Tuesday, adaptation will apply to consumers throughout Pakistan, including those served by K-Electric, in accordance with government policy guidelines. The regulator said the additional charge would be collected in October accounts.
The Central Energy Market Organization (CPPA) had previously requested an increase in RS0.19 per unit to adjust the same month.
The increase, though nominal, adds to the increasing burden of consumers who are already facing high energy costs. The upward revision is part of the regular monthly adjustment process that reflects fluctuations in fuel prices and energy costs.
Last month, the National Regulatory Electricity Authority approved an increase in RS0.19 per unit in the electricity invoice under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism. Hiking is applied to all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric, but will exclude consumers Lifeline, prepaid users and electric vehicles.
According to a notification issued by Nepra, the increase falls below the August fuel cost adjustment mechanism (FCA) and will be reflected in the electricity bills for October.
Nepra has publicly heard at its headquarters, chaired by the President of the Authority, where they represented representatives of the Central Power Service, members of the business community, the Ministry of Energy Officers, Journalists and members of the public.
CPPA-G had requested a 19 pais increase per unit. Nepra said she heard carefully the views of all interested parties during the listening. The Authority will release a detailed decision after further inspection of the data submitted.
