Roblox gives parents the wheel

Roblox gives parents the wheel

Roblox has now made the opportunity for parents and adult supervisors to limit their children’s interaction with selected users, according to the guardian. The electronic gambling platform, popular among children, now allows parents to prevent their young people from playing some games in the virtual universe.

Changes have been added to a series of security updates that help parents monitor their children’s experience to ensure less exposure to harmful content. Starting on Wednesday, supervisors recognized by their identifiers or credit cards will gain access to three new tools.

Updated access

As one of the largest gambling platforms in the world, Roblox hosts more monthly users than Nintendo Switch and Sony Playstation in combination. In 2024, it recorded over 80 million players a day, of which about 40 % were under 13 years.

As an impressive achievement as this may be, it also requires greater control and responsibility over the characteristics of the virtual universe. Therefore, Roblox recently added new tools to its instructions to help the parents concerned.

Parents should have access to new controls by linking their Roblox account to their child’s account after completing the verification procedures. They will then be able to head to the “parental control” tab and supervise their child’s experience.

The friend management tool would allow them to block users to their child’s friends list, which implies that they cannot send and receive messages. Parents will also be able to report accounts that believe that they violate the platform policies.

In the past, they could only see the list of friends, but this update allows them to intervene without obstacle. Children’s players can also ask their parents to unblock users.

Carers can also manage the level of maturity of the content and decide which toys can access their children. This would also allow them to control the time of the player’s screen, while at the same time they could review 20 more frequent experiences last week. Previously, parents were able to set restrictions on the daily time of their children’s screen.

What prompted that?

After the internet security law in the US this year has entered into force, technology companies were obliged by law to take measures against malicious content on their platforms. If you do not do this, it would result in fines of up to £ 18 million or 10 percent of world revenue. Roblox seems to act accordingly, given the problems of the platform with care and cyberspace.

The virtual universe, which welcomes players about eight years old, has had problems with users who bypass the security systems. According to the guardian, Turkey banned it in August for “content that could lead to the exploitation of children”.

After that, Roblox issued a statement on their website, promising that they worked with local authorities to tackle the problem. “We are determined to do everything we can to keep our community safe and share the commitment of global children to protect children,” they read the statement.

By registering all the ways in which Roblox works to maintain a user -friendly community, the statement added: “We work tirelessly to be vigilant against efforts to bypass our security systems.

The gambling platform introduced 40 security updates last year, such as banning players under the age of 13 from sending immediate messages. Developers also used a model of mechanical learning to serve as a more accurate conversation coordinator among players by a human coordinator.

Confidence in supervision

Andy Burrows, Managing Director of the Molly Rose Foundation, appreciated security improvements, but believes that there are problems that need to be addressed.

“Roblox still has to deal with significant problems with harmful and content discomfort,” he said. “Extensive research has shown that Roblox is full of elderly toys and communities, including depression that can synthesize misery and not provide support to vulnerable children.”

Concerning these creative options added: “This content raises fundamental questions about Roblox’s broader commitment to security and shows that it cannot be based only on parental controls, but must take decisive measures to make the platform safe for its new users.”

In March, co -founder and CEO of Roblox, David Baszucki, was also weighed on the issue. Service for the platform’s ability to protect its users from harmful content, he said: “My first message would be: If you are not comfortable, do not let your children be in Roblox, which sounds a little opposite, but I will always trust parents to make their own decisions.”

In response, Mumsnet Founder Justine Roberts said that parents in the forum often fight with the internet supervision, despite the fact that they are trying their best. He added: “We all know that, with the best will in the world, life sometimes hinders.”
