The number of deaths from a strong earthquake in the Central Philippines approached 60 on Wednesday, with injured patients crushing hospitals on the island of CEBU, as workers brought dozens of body bags away to chaotic consequences.
The shallow size 6.9 hit at 9:59 pm (1359 GMT) Tuesday from the northern end of the island near Bogo, a city of 90,000 people, according to US Geological Survey (USGS).
The injured children shouted and the adults shouted while treatment of beds placed under blue scenes on the road to the CEBU provincial hospital in Bogo.
They had been out of the building amid fears of further damage, as hundreds of aftershocks rushed the area overnight.
Nearby, hospital workers brought black body bags to a lorry cargo that would carry them to local deaths, AFP reporters saw.
Up to 60 people are reportedly killed so far, said Deputy Ministry of Defense Deputy Rafaelito Alejandro.

Rescuer Teddy Fontilas, 56 years old, said AFP He had not slept an eye, adding that some patients had to move to other hospitals because one in Bogo was already overflowing.
“We are already overwhelmed, so we have to bring them to the city,” he said, referring to the provincial capital CEBU, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) to the south.
“I have already fought, but what we do is necessary to help our patients,” he added.
“Due to the large volume of patients with serious injuries, medical staff tends to some of them outside the hospital,” CEBU Pamela Baricuatro’s provincial governor on the official Facebook page said.

“There could be people trapped under collapse buildings,” said Wilson Ramos province employee AFP.
Efforts of recovery of the night were hindered by the dark as well as transformed, he added.
The rescue effort went on all night, even when the Philippine Institute of volcania and seismology said the area ranges from 379 aftershocks.
The earthquake caused the journey of electricity, leading to a holiday across the CEBU and the nearby central islands, although power was restored shortly after midnight at CEBU and four other major central islands, National Grid Corp. of the Philippines reported to updated advice.

The USGS reported a magnitude of 7.0 before revising it, while the Pacific Tsunami warning center said there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.
Earthquakes are an almost daily appearance in the Philippines, located in the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, an arc of intense seismic activity extending from Japan through Southeast Asia and throughout the Pacific basin.
Most are too weak to make people feel, but the powerful and destructive come by accident, without technology available to predict when and where they could hit.
