The government is aiming for a joint venture in the Pakistan International Airlines virtual building that belongs to the Roosevelt in Manhattan, New York to ensure long -term financial benefits, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said Monday.
“While selling the 19 -storey property can provide short -term profits or help repayment of a debt, a consortium will maintain the asset and create a constant value,” he said during the National Assembly questions.
Asif stressed that the hotel’s primary location, with two entrances and central location, made it a unique piece of real estate, which was incomparable in New York.
“Alternatively, the government is also considering the option to sell the Roosevelt hotel entirely,” ASIF said.
In April, the Council of the Privatization Committee at its 233rd meeting discussed various trading structure options developed by the Financial Counselor, a joint venture led by Jones Lang La Salle Americas Inc (JLL) for the privatization of the Roosevelt Hotel.
The Board of Directors also completed its recommendations for the structure of transactions for a presentation to the Committee of Ministerial Society (CCOP).
The options include the sale of the building such as or select a consortium with a top programmer who has the ability to generate revenue five times higher, according to a statement after the meeting.
The federal government has officially invited expressions of interest (EOI) last month by potential investors to privatize PIA loss, marking a significant development in its efforts to unload a share of control over the national flag body.
According to the Privatization Committee, the decision was made to sell between 51% and 100% of PIA shares, along with the management control to the future buyer. Interested parties are until June 3, 2025 to submit their EOIS.
Last month, the National Carrier said he had published an annual gain for the first time in more than two decades, before a second attempt by the government to sell the airline.
Islamabad’s attempt to privatize PIA last year was flat when it received only one bid, well below the requested price of more than $ 300 million.
Pakistan had unloaded almost 80% of the debt of the airline’s heritage and changed it to government books before the privatization attempt.
The rest of the debt was also cleared by the airline’s accounts after a failed sale attempt to become more attractive to potential buyers, according to the country’s privatization ministry.
