Federal employees in all the United States have been ordered to account for their weekly work or risk ending, as Elon Musk promotes the stricter accountability in government services.
Email messages sent by the Personnel Management Office (OPM) on Saturday, ordered employees to submit a list of achievements last week, copied to their administrators until Monday night.
The directive, Musk said, is in line with the orders of US President Donald Trump.
“The inability to respond will be resigned,” Musk wrote on X, his social media platform.
The billionaire is leading the effectiveness of the Ministry of Government, which has already supervised the firing of at least 20,000 federal employees.
The OPM has described the movement as part of the administration’s effort for a more effective government, although it remains unclear whether non -compliance could legally justify the termination.
Labor experts suggest disciplinary action, such as reproaches or suspensions would be more enforceable.
The US Federation of Government Officers (AFGE), which represents more than 800,000 civil servants, has condemned the directive, warning that it would question any illegal redundancies.
“Once again, Elon Musk and Trump administration have shown their complete contempt for federal officials,” said AFGE Everet Kelley.
Federal services responded with confusion. Some departments informed employees to wait for internal guidance before compliance, reporting security concerns.
Others, including the Cyber Security Service and the CISA, confirmed the legality of the Directive.
Musk has previously implemented similar work tracking measures on Twitter, now X and Tesla.
The latest directive marks further turmoil as Trump’s administration continues a sweeping review of the federal workforce.
