Former NCT member Moon Tae-Olymp, known as Taeil, will face his first hearing in court on May 12 along with two others accused of “quasi-rape”, News News Outlet Allkpop said. The laws of South Korea describe “quasi -rape” as involving sexual intercourse, while the other person is unconscious or incapable of resisting.
The Korean Times reported in March that Taeil was charged with no detention of sexual assault on a drunken woman with two acquaintances. The Directorate of Women and Child Crimes of the Central Province of Seoul was accused of all three people in February.
The court rejected the appeal of the Seoul Bangbe police station for arrest warrants for Taeil and the other two suspects, revealing that they had admitted the crime, which in turn reduced the need for detention. Two months after receiving the victim’s reports, the police then called the singer in August to challenge and forward the case to the prosecution in September.
Taeil, however, did not show before the prosecutors, with his legal team providing medical documents and a statement from his lawyer to ratify his permission. In the meantime, all the suspects argued that the crime was not deliberate.
In August last year, the 30-year-old singer abandoned the K-Pop team after an unspecified category of sexual crime, according to a statement published by SM Entertainment. The statement also assured the public that the singer worked with the research.
“In evaluating the events related to this issue, we recognized the seriousness of the issue and found that it could no longer continue the activities of the group,” he said. “After discussing with Taeil, it was decided that he would retire from the team … We apologize for the dispute caused by our artist.”
While SM Entertainment had announced Taeil’s departure then, his contract was officially terminated in October. “Taeil is now under investigation into a crime, which is the cause of the termination of the contract, because our confidence in him as an artist has suffered serious damage. The termination has come as a result of a mutual agreement,” the company said.
Taeil was a member of both the NCT NCT 127 NCT 127, released by the sixth Walk Album Studio in July. After suffering a motorcycle accident in August 2023, he paused to undergo surgery and focus on recovery, which limited his activities with the team.
The company informed: “As adequate treatment and stability is still needed, Taeil will not be able to participate in NCT 127’s third Neo City tour – the section scheduled for November. We ask for a generous understanding of fans.”
