At least nine people were killed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab on July 19–20 in monsoon-related incidents — flash floods, windstorm-driven structural collapses and a fatal boat accident — as the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s July 18–25 forecast window entered its second and third days (Samaa TV; Pakistan Today).
Swat boat disaster
The most devastating single incident occurred at Saifullah Lake in Swat, where a tourist boat capsized during a period of rough weather. All six passengers aboard — members of the same family — were killed. Rescue teams recovered all six bodies. The lake, a popular tourist destination in upper Swat valley, has seen increased visitor traffic during the summer season despite the elevated monsoon risk.
KP and Punjab deaths
Seven people were killed in KP from flash flooding in local streams and nullahs, structural collapses in hill areas and lightning strikes. In Punjab, two people died as walls, roofs and billboards collapsed due to rain and high winds, with incidents reported across Attock, Khushab, Sargodha and Sheikhupura districts.
KP’s Hazara division and upper Swat — both areas of particular landslide and flash flood risk according to PMD — recorded the highest concentration of incidents. The NDMA has directed district administrations in at-risk areas to maintain emergency response teams and heavy machinery on standby throughout the forecast window.
More than 90 people have been killed in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since late June. The cumulative toll is expected to rise as the PMD forecast period runs through July 25, with northeastern Balochistan facing its heaviest rainfall between July 19 and July 23 — overlapping with districts where Operation Shaban security operations are ongoing.
