Overwhelmed by an overwhelming tidal wave of love, sprinkled with a dose of unwarranted shame over a body that refuses to approach supermodel proportions? Welcome to new motherhood. After all, if Kate Middleton can ping the size of her marriage after having a baby (three times, no less), anyone can do it without batting an eye, right?
Eight months after giving birth to a beautiful baby Hassan, TV actress Minal Khan – aka Ayman’s twin – struck a chord with her fans and followers as she penned the general thought that runs through the heads of new mothers around the world. in the showbiz world and beyond.
“After 8 months I still feel the same,” the Ishq Hai actress began as she took to Instagram. Lest anyone misunderstand her intense love for her son, regardless of the toll he has put on her body, Minal gave weight to the overwhelming miracle of childbirth as she singled out her husband Ahsan Mohsin Ikram, along with her family who it was always there.
“I am still in awe of this life and the life-changing experience of literally bringing a life into this world,” she wrote. “Forever grateful to my family and Ahsan for always supporting me [me]and it’s an honor to be your mom, Hassan,” she captioned it.
But while she was grateful for the support of those in her immediate circle, Minal was quick to turn her attention to the unfair expectation of new mothers to shed the baby weight in the blink of an eye.
“But societal pressure?” she continued. “The pressure affects me. The pressure of bouncing back, the pressure of looking your best when you don’t feel better after gaining 40+ pounds in pregnancy.”
Minal acknowledged that she’s by no means alone in feeling the burden — or “the overwhelming experience of motherhood” — of trying to look her best while leading a life of limited sleep and needing her around the clock. Rounding up all the new moms out there, Minal added, “New moms, do you still feel lonely?”
Giving her ‘new moms’ a virtual hug, Minal ended her post with heartwarming words of encouragement to get out there and take charge. “You are not alone, we are in this together and we have it! Let’s hit the runway and show the world who rules the world.”
The comments section of Minal’s post quickly gathered steam as her fans and followers began pouring in words of gratitude and support. “You spoke to my heart!” one fan wrote. “A body that creates a human and gains weight through a nine-month journey and then after giving birth – how can people expect to lose it overnight? It’s not that easy.”
Another fan acknowledged how it’s harder for a woman in the public to scrutinize her body with such intensity after becoming a mother.
“I love the way you expressed your feelings,” the fan commented. “It’s not easy to do that as an actor with a big audience. I’m glad we’re discussing this openly! I have come to realize that no one would be completely happy – if they wanted to, they would find something to complain about. We should not be influenced by others, although it is difficult! You got this, Mom!”
Minal and her husband Ahsan got engaged in May 2021 before having a grand wedding in September of the same year in a glitzy ceremony attended by showbiz heavyweights. The couple announced to their fans in July 2023 that they were expecting their first child. They welcomed their bundle of joy, Hassan, just a few months later in November.
