The recent episodes of Main manto nahi hoon It has fans who lift their eyebrows over the seemingly problematic accumulation of the demonstration between the main characters. Public opinion argues that Manto (Humayun Saeed) and Mehmal (Sajal Ali) should not be romantically involved.
The show follows the story of Mehmal, a girl from a violent and patriarchal family struggling to receive higher education against her father’s wishes. The university meets the quiet professor of writers-economy, Manto who shares his name with the legendary writer.
Although not explicitly appeared, the show implies a romance between Mehmal and Manto. In one scene, Mehmal’s aunt teases her to have a crash with her teacher, pointing out how much she talks about him, implying a romantic attraction. In another scene, Manto grabs Mehmal’s hand and tries to save her from her cousin Farhaad (Azaan Sami Khan) who strongly pursues her. Later she gets beating from Farhaad’s guards for her.
The fans are frustrated by the choice of Sajal and Humayun, which is one of the brink of normalizing this dynamics. An Instagram user wrote: “I don’t understand how A-Listers agree to do crap like this, do people don’t read scenarios?”
Another Sajal-Stan commented on her Instagram: “We were expecting a better scenario than you.” 
Despite the film and the good action of the demonstration, the fans could not look beyond writing: “Even if Manto is a great character, I can’t move the strange feeling of a student and the teacher who has a romantic relationship (plus 20+ a gap). “I really hope that Mehmal and her fiancé (or Farhaad) will come together.”
Some have pointed out the respect that requires a student-teachers’ relationship. “The heroes who have not studied at university will not know the respect of teachers,” they read a YouTube comment. “Students also have their own dignity, teachers are your spiritual parents. Such a poor Sajal scenario worked.” 
Another was simply anesthetized by how wrong this dynamic is. “No family will send their daughter to male teachers in this way.” Read the Instagram comment. “And if they do, then teachers and students will begin to see each other from this lens, shame on this drama. You all need to mention this kind of script as they destroy clear relationships and make people dirty.” 
The show is written by Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar and directed by Nadeem Baig. Distributed by Six Sigma Plus and next level entertainment and aired at Ary Digital. The drama has an asteroid cast with Humayun and Sajal to take the lead and Sanam Saeed, Asif Raza Mir, Saba Hamid, Saba Faisal, Saima Noor and Azaan Sami Khan in supportive roles.
