After nearly a century at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the virtual golden mask of King Tutankhamen and the rest of the treasures are going to move to the new Grand Egyptian Museum near the Giza Pyramids, as reported by AFP.
Boy King’s world -renowned Gold Gold Mask will be involved in more than 5,000 objects from his grave in GEM, an opening of a $ 1 billion Megaproject on July 3.
“Only 26 items from the Tutankhamun collection, including Golden Mask and two coffins, remain here in Tahrir,” said the director of the Ali Abdel Halim Museum.
“Everyone is going to move soon,” he told AFP, without confirming a specific date for the transfer or relocation plan.
Still on the screen is the inner gold coffin, a gold -plated coffin, a gold knife, a cosmetic box, tiny coffins, royal diadem and chest.
The treasures of Tutankhamun, registered at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square in Cairo in 1934, have long been his jewelry.
But the neoclassical building-with faded cases, without climate control and aging-contradicts high-tech jewelry.
Once open, jewelry is believed to be the largest in the world dedicated to a single culture, which hosts more than 100,000 objects – with over half a public promotion.
In a dedicated wing, most of King Tut’s treasures will be exhibited together for the first time in history, after British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered the intact tomb of young Pharaoh in 1922.
Its mummy will remain in its original rest in the Luxor Valley of the Kings, as it is “a vital part of the archaeological site”, Egyptian officials said.
A virtual copy, however, will appear in GEM using virtual reality technology.
The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, long the historical heart of Egyptology, has lost 2021 star exhibits: 22 royal mummies, including Ramses II and Queen Hatshepsut that were transferred to a widely monitored state procession at the Egyptian National Museum.
It also hosts about 170,000 objects, according to the director of the museum, including treasures by the ancestors of Yuya and Thuya – Tutankhamun – and objects from ancient Tanis, such as the king’s golden burial mask.
A total of 32,000 items have already been relocated from storage and projection rooms at the Tahrir Museum in jewelry.
The director of the museum said that the remaining space would eventually be filled with a new exhibition “equivalent to the importance of Tut’s treasures”.
