Karsaz accident: Suspect admits guilt in drug case

KARACHI: The Karsaz accident suspect has admitted to her guilt in the drug case, according to the investigation officer (IO) Muhammad Shakir’s final charge sheet filed on Saturday. This development comes after the suspect was involved in a fatal accident on August 19, where she drove a luxury vehicle at high speed under the influence of methamphetamine, killing a man and his daughter and injuring two others on Karsaz Road.

The suspect was initially detained and booked under rash driving and manslaughter charges. Later, a separate case was lodged against her under the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order (PEHO) 1979 for driving under the influence. Although she was granted bail in the main case after the victims’ heirs pardoned her, her bail plea was dismissed in the drug case.

During the investigation, a woman medico-legal officer examined the suspect and collected samples for lab analysis, confirming she was under the influence of methamphetamine on the evening of August 19. The IO concluded that the suspect drove negligently and recklessly, causing the accident. The Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance’s Section 100, which pertains to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, was added to the main case.
