Jeff Bezos has denied reports that his upcoming wedding to fiancee Lauren Sanchez will cost $600 million, calling the figures “completely false”. The Amazon founder took to X on Sunday to address the rumors, which had been published by The Daily Mail on Saturday.
The report suggested that the wedding would take place in Aspen, Colorado on December 28 and that the couple had rented out the Matsuhisa sushi restaurant for the days leading up to the event. A source had claimed that the entire wedding weekend would cost an astronomical $600 million.
In his post, Bezos categorically denied the allegations. “Also, this whole thing is completely bogus — none of it is happening,” he wrote. He also pointed out how quickly false information spreads, adding: “The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even truer today than ever. Now the lies can go around the world before the truth has time to put on its pants.”
He concluded with a challenge to the media outlets that had rebroadcast the story, asking: “It will be interesting to see if all the outlets that have been ‘covering’ and re-reporting on this issue a correction when it comes and goes and doesn’t.” it’s not happening.”
Since their engagement in May 2023, Bezos and Sánchez have kept their wedding plans mostly private. However, Sánchez shared some insights into her wedding planning during an appearance Today in November, she admitted she used Pinterest to help plan her big day.
“I have to say I have a Pinterest — I’m just like any other bride, so I have a Pinterest board,” Sánchez said, noting that she’s still deciding on the details, particularly her dress.
During a separate interview with Fashion in November, she mentioned that they were considering a destination wedding, but had yet to finalize details.
Despite the outrageous rumours, Sánchez has previously revealed that her life with Bezos is not all about luxury. In an August interview with Peopletalked about their simple, quiet times together, particularly when they enjoy binge-watching TV shows.
“My favorite time is when the house is calm and quiet and Jeff and I are deciding which show to binge on that night,” Sanchez said.
He also mentioned some of their recent TV favorites, including Baby Reindeer, Falloutand Cut off. “It takes a while to decide,” he said of their different tastes. “But I love our TV time, we just have the best time.”
