Hollywood’s new talent is not flesh and blood

Hollywood’s new talent is not flesh and blood

Hollywood talent organizations are holding talks to represent Tilly Norwood, an artist created by AI who could soon become the first artificial actress officially signed by an agent.

The move marks how artificial intelligence quickly presses on the entertainment industry, rejuvenating discussions central to the strikes of 2023 actors and writers.

Tilly Norwood is the creation of actress, comic and technologist Eline van der Velden through the Talent Xicoia studio. Speaking at the Zurich Summit, Van Der Velden revealed that the industry’s skepticism has shifted quickly.

“We were in many meeting rooms around February, and everyone was like,” No, that’s nothing. It’s not going to happen. “Then, in May, people were like,” We have to do something with you. “

He added that a statement on which service will represent Tilly is expected in months. Reactions online have been mixed. Some users characterize growth as “gloomy” and warned of science fiction – style scenarios.

Others rejected such concerns and welcome experimentation. Boycottal calls have also appeared, underlining the concern surrounding the AI that has traditionally played by human actors.

Tilly was presented as a London -based actress with a growing presence of social media and an introduction of a video created by AI. According to Van der Velden, the character was developed with 10 different tools, including chatgpt.

He is trained to “perform with color, emotion and consistency”. In a public statement on criticism, Van Der Velden describes Tilly not as a substitute for human actors but as a creative experiment.

“He is not a replacement for a man, but a creative work – a work of art,” he wrote. “AI offers another way to imagine and build stories. I am an actor himself and nothing – certainly not a AI character – can take the boat or joy of human performance.”

AI characters were compared to previous innovations such as animation, puppetry and CGI, arguing that each one opened new narrative capabilities without deleting live action. Tilly’s creation, he said, was “an act of fantasy and craftsmanship”, which represents experimentation and not substitution.

Van Der Velden has urged that AI’s characters would be judged with their own advantages and not directly against human interpreters. “When we celebrate all forms of creativity, we open the doors to new voices, new stories and new ways of connecting each other,” he concluded.
