Islamabad:
The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the week ending June 19, 2025, increased 0.27% compared to last week, driven by higher prices of basic food and energy, according to data released by the Pakistan Office of Statistics (PBS).
Remarkable weekly increases were observed in liquefied oil (LPG, UP 14.86%), potatoes (3.75%), diesel (3.10%), guru (2.25%), chicken (2.17%), sugar (2.13%), gasoline (1.88%), Milk powder (0.97%) DAAL (0.68%) and prepared tea (0.39%).
In contrast, prices were reduced for eggs (-9.53%), tomatoes (-5.62%), garlic (-1.03%), Pulse Gram (-0.35%), 2.5kg Ghee (-0.17%).
Of the 51 key figures watched in 50 markets in 17 cities, prices of 23 items increased, eight decreased and 20 remained unchanged.
On an annual basis (on an annual basis), the SPI showed a decrease of 2.06%, with significant reductions in onion prices (-63.22%), tomato (-56.11%), electricity charges for Q1 (-41.63%), garlic (-32.58%), politician (-19.09%), politicians (-19.09%), (-17.97%). However, significant annual increases were recorded in sandals (+55.62%), Pulse Moong (+28.90%), sugar (+26.19%), powder milk (+25.93%) and LPG (+21.77%).
The weekly SPI serves as a basic tool to measure short -term prices on basic products and monitor inflationary trends across the country.
SPI has shown mixed trends in recent weeks, with small fluctuations affected by oil price revisions and market demand dynamics. Following the collapse of reductions earlier in May, the SPI has gradually increased up to the end of May, indicating refurbished inflationary pressures on both food and energy sectors, according to data compiled by Optimus Capital Management.
Market observers suggest that the coming weeks may attend further volatility depending on the global prices of basic products and domestic conditions. The Pakistani State Bank (SBP) has noted that inflation is expected to tend and stabilized in the target range during FY26.
The head of world research JS Muhammad Waqas Ghani noted that after an increase of 3.5% annually in May 2025, the monthly consumer price index (CPI) is expected to rise to 3.1% in June.
The main result is now faded, signaling a return to normal price trends. This will get the average FY25 at 4.6%, below the average FY24 23.9%.
Food inflation for June 2025 is expected to rise by 2.8% on the basis of the annual basis, which was 0.97% last year, due to the rejection of the key result. However, price reductions in certain foodstuffs are likely to lead to a month -to -month reduction in food inflation. The Housing, Gas and Electricity Department is expected to publish a 4% reduction in June, mainly due to a reduction in electricity invoices.
Inflation of the core is expected to watch about 8.5% annually in June 2025. It is important to note that inflation, which excludes food and energy, has remained about 9-10% in recent months. Inflation of the urban core was registered at 7.3% in May, while the inflation of the rural core reported at 8.8%.
