‘Friends’ stars LeBlanc, Cox pay tribute to Matthew Perry

LOS ANGELES:

The friends Actors Matt LeBlanc and Courteney Cox paid touching personal tributes to their late co-star Matthew Perry on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after his death.

Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the hit TV sitcom from 1994-2004, died last month at age 54 after decades of battling addiction and relatively serious health issues. “The times we spent together are honestly some of the favorite times of my life,” wrote LeBlanc, who played Perry’s roommate and best friend on the show.

He shared several screenshots of it on Instagram The friends scenes with the couple, including two in which they are embracing. “It’s been an honor to share the stage with you and call you my friend,” he wrote, adding: “Spread your wings and fly bro, you’re finally free.”

Cox, who played love interest and eventually wife Perry on the show, shared a “Friends” clip on Instagram of the famous scene in which their characters’ romantic relationship is first revealed. “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” Cox wrote.

Her post included footage from the end of the scene, where Cox – in bed with Perry – cracks a joke for the live studio audience. “In that scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line to me to say,” she explained. “He often did things like that. He was funny and kind.”

Perry was found unconscious in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home last month by first responders, who were unable to revive him. Perry’s cause of death is not yet known. The initial post-mortem examination was inconclusive and the results of toxicology tests have not yet been released.

Perry’s five co-stars – Cox, LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow – released a joint statement two days after his death. “We are all so devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than teammates. We are a family,” they said.

“There is so much to say, but right now we will take some time to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. We will say more in time, as and when we can,” they added at the time. The five reportedly attended Perry’s private funeral in Los Angeles earlier this month.
