Walt Disney announced plans on Wednesday to open a Disney themed park at the Capital Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Arab Abu in collaboration with the regional developer Miral Group, which represents its first new theme park in almost a decade and its first in the Middle East.
Disney Waterfront’s scheduled resort will be located on Yas island, a popular tourist destination that hosts other family -friendly sights, such as Warner Bros World Yas Island, Seaworld Yas Island and Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi.
“We are always interested in this part of the world – to bring Disney’s stories to young, younger fans,” Disney Unit President Josh D’Amaro in Reuters said, adding: “Abu Dhabi was an ideal location for us.”
Miral, the recreation and entertainment team based in Abu Dhabi, responsible for the development of the island of YAS, will fund, build and operate the resort. Creative and technical professionals designing Disney theme parks, known as Imagineers, will lead creative design and provide business supervision.
Disney Park “will be authentic Disney and clearly the Emirates – an Oasis of Disney’s extraordinary entertainment at the crossroads of the world,” Disney Bob Iger CEO said in a statement on Wednesday.
Disney did not announce the start date for the new park, though D’Amaro said that a project on this scale could take one or two years to design for another four to six years to build.
Once completed, the resort will offer Disney attractions, dining and retail experiences, in a way that combines Burbank Entertainment Company’s narrative and Abu Dhabi’s heritage, D’Amaro said.
Abu Dhabi Park, Disney’s first since Shanghai Disneyland opened in 2016, represents the continuation of the company’s plans to “turbocharch” its experience of experiences, which includes the six global park resorts, a cruise line line and a family resort in Hawaii.
