As the country faces a nationwide outbreak of dengue fever, with hundreds of cases being reported on a daily basis, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that the disease outbreak will subside next month.
“Dengue is likely to subside in November, but the next two weeks are still critical,” a statement released by the Met Office.
The PMD said it is expected that dengue cases may decrease in the coming month, according to current weather conditions, projected future seasonal outlook and trends in atmospheric variables.
However, he said the next two weeks remain critical as the prevailing atmospheric factors favor the favorable environment for the vector-borne disease.
The Met Office has instructed all concerned to take precautionary measures to deal with the dengue situation prevailing in the country. It said that national health services and dengue control centers are advised to keep up to date with the latest information from the PMD website.
Hospitals across the country have received an overwhelming number of patients complaining of cold, fever and body aches due to the rise in cases of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria and chikungunya.
The situation has been dire especially in Sindh and Punjab, where thousands of citizens have been diagnosed with dengue this year.
According to Sindh Health Department statistics, nearly 1,600 cases have been reported in the province so far.
Meanwhile, at least 4,394 cases have been reported in Punjab this year.
Doctors recommend eliminating standing water in residential areas and keeping water containers tightly covered. In addition, citizens are advised to use mosquito nets and nets along with long-sleeved clothing.
