Create Misogyny Mainstream

Misogyny is spreading to social media through the so -called “Manosphere”, DW says. These influences of masculinity, often young, well -educated men, are presented as victims of feminism and invite their power to be “restored”.

New users often meet this content randomly and hook. They end up in a parallel world full of anger, frustration and toxic ideology.

The Manosphere is a melting container for anti-feminist narratives, which, thanks to social media, can spread like a fire. The content ranges from the manipulation tips dating to political requirements aimed at weakening the social status of women in absolute misogyny. What everyone has in common is a fundamental rejection of gender equality.

Many videos appear professionally produced. “They are men with microphones, usually in podcast situations, running for things like how women should not have a high ‘body number’-in other words, who should not sleep with many men.

“According to this traditional worldview, women are actively selected by men. This is one of Alpha Male’s desired motives,” Wittwer says. “But the reality here is different: for the most part, a woman can choose someone, choose anyone at all, choose another woman or stay alone and may be very happy at 30 to three cats, making these kinds of people angry, seeing that they lose power over women.

After a few hours moving into the world of the influences of masculinity, one observes that they share a similar perception of the world: modern society has been put against men and men are therefore disadvantaged. The desire for old social structures and gender stereotypes dominates these social media channels.

Influence

Christian influences or “Christians”, as they are sometimes mentioned, who invoke religion to limit women’s rights, to spread the same message.

“It is an attempt to shift the responsibility, according to which,” it is not our mistake to oppress women, because God or Jesus said so “or” women deserve less because of biology, allowed to be with a few men, allowed to do so, “says Wittwer.

More and more women are also jumping on board. “Make Sandwich” is a hashtag used by women who share the opinions of the Manosphere and the ideology of “natural order” in relation to gender.

“These women often emphasize that it is their choice to live this dependent life – and that should not be condemned at all.” If a woman says, “I want to be a traditional housewife, I am fulfilled with being at home, cooking and having children”, then of course it is fine.

The problem is that when women are mainly active at home, they disappear from public life and are unable to help configure [political] Decisions and procedures.

Many of these women who share the ideas of the Manosphere also create accounts and promote their lifestyle as the only valid. “Anyone who does not do this is a mentally ill label and said they need treatment. As is so often, feminism is depicted as a disease,” Wittwer says.

Poisoned reason

Wittwer is also active online and regularly produces German language videos on the issue of equality and solidarity among women. It critically analyzes how patriarchal structures and influences spread the misogyny content in social media – concise, pointed and with subtle humor.

But not everyone likes it. Comments like “but you have everything in Germany” in relation to women’s rights in the country are not uncommon. “Statistics, however, show that every other day, women are killed by their associates or former associates,” he points out.

The criticism of it comes not only from men, but also from the feminist camp.

“For some, I’m not quite radical. For example, I don’t like the 4b movement, partly because I have a husband myself, whom I wouldn’t be without being without being,” Wittwer says.

The radical feminist movement 4B comes from South Korea and opposes marriage to men. Women should not have children, romantic relationships or sex with men.

“This is not a wedding or not a marriage. These are women who have choices and are able to decide,” Wiitwer continues. “Women and men are not identical, but they are of equal value and many people do not seem to want to understand this. They are equal rights and equal value.” So it is exactly the opposite of what the fans of the Manosphere want, whether men or women, want.

The growing popularity of this misogyny movement creates a high risk, with platforms such as Tiktok and YouTube that serve as perfect breeding areas. Influences sell toxic images of masculinity as lifestyle tips and disguise hatred as “truth”. Young men are particularly vulnerable to this content. Social media create a new wave of misogynistic narratives that can be socially explosive.
