Famous actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie signed a divorce settlement on Monday, US media reported, marking a turning point in their eight-year legal saga, according to AFP. Jolie’s attorney James Simon confirmed the settlement to People magazine, saying in a statement that Jolie “is focused on finding peace and healing for their family.”
“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that began eight years ago,” Simon said. “Honestly, Angelina is exhausted, but she’s relieved that this one piece is over.” Details of the settlement between the former power couple were not immediately available.
Jolie filed for dissolution of their marriage in September 2016, and the couple has been locked in a legal battle ever since. Jolie filed for divorce days after a flight on which she claims in court documents that Pitt “choked” one of their children and hit another during a dogfight.
Over the next few years, the A-listers clashed over custody of the children – – three biological and three adopted – – and most recently over ownership of a luxury French property they bought together. In 2018, the couple reached a custody agreement for their six children, three of whom are adopted, although it appears to have since broken up.
Pitt, 61, and Jolie, 49, have also been embroiled in a separate legal dispute stemming from the sale of Jolie’s stake in Chateau Miraval, the southern France vineyard where the couple got married. In February 2022, Pitt accused his one-time co-star of violating his rights when she offloaded her stake in the winery to a subsidiary of the Stoli Group, which is owned by a Russian-born billionaire.
In court documents he filed, Pitt said “Jolie tried to harm him” with the sale, citing alleged connections between company owner Yuri Scheffler and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Shefler has long been a staunch critic of Putin, and the Stoli Group drinks conglomerate is based in Latvia.
