Bangladesh unrest: are Hindus allowed to be a victim?
As soon as former prime minister Sheikh Hasina had fled from Bangladesh and violent outbreaks against the Hindu minority got started, media critics began to worry about online ‘fake’ rumours originating in India. This quickly influenced many international headlines and news articles to put the misinformation under a magnifying glass. BBC, France24 and others wrote that “fake news” on anti-Hindu violence was destabilizing a country which is already going through a lot of challenges to form a new government. On social media tens of thousands of people shared or liked posts claiming that Hindus in Bangladesh were not in danger.
