E for empathy (Opinion)
‘Ehsaas’ is an Urdu word that means empathy, which is probably why the government used it as the title of its programme ‘to help poverty alleviation’. The official website also declares that this programme is the ‘biggest and boldest programme ever launched in Pakistan to uplift marginalised people’. It is a brilliant initiative. However, (yep there is a, however) actions – and in this case, the public’s reactions – speak louder than words. And it seems that somewhere the actual purpose of this programme was lost. Instead of ‘poverty alleviation’, we are seeing ‘poverty elevation’. And instead of empathy, Ehsaas
