The Iran-Saudi Deal and China’s diplomatic coup in the Middle East (Opinion)
Saudi Arabia and Iran are two neighbouring countries, which have many things in common, such as religion, culture and history, and the two countries should generally maintain good relations. But in reality, it is completely opposite. Diplomatic relations between Tehran and Riyadh have been suspended since 2016. That year, Saudi Arabia executed 81 people in one day, most of whom were Shia Muslims. Protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran to protest the execution of an influential Shia religious leader.
