7 Wild Revelations From Ranveer, Deepika’s ‘KwK’ Look

Coffee with Karan returns and how. The eighth installment of the juicy, speculation-filled offering kicked off with the ‘Kings of Bollywood’ Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh gracing the coveted Koffee couch.

Right off the bat, the energy of the show felt different. While Deepika and Ranveer often collaborate and compliment each other on social media, seeing them as a couple, for a long time, interviewing someone from the fraternity with whom they share a certain level of ease, the two with a different prism.

As the debate unfolded, many revelations were revealed and the internet couldn’t stop talking about a few key takeaways. Without further ado, here are seven of the craziest revelations from its first episode Coffee with KaranSeason 8:

1. When Ranveer met Deepika

True to the very elaborate nature of Bollywood, Ranveer recalled meeting his future wife in the most dramatic way. He shared that while Kareena Kapoor was going to play the role of Leela in Sanjay Leela Bhanslai Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (you can imagine), he had to back off for some reason. He claimed that he was batting for Team Deepika after watching her amazing performance Cocktail.

The script reading took place at Sanjay’s house by the sea. Ranveer remembered the heavy doors of the director’s house opening, letting in a burst of sea breeze. All this served as the perfect backdrop for Deepika to enter, decked out in white, like an ethereal angel crossing the threshold, planting her footsteps straight into Ranveer’s heart.

This was followed by an attempt on Ranveer’s part to make her feel conscious as she had some food stuck in her teeth. However, when he pointed it out, he simply asked him to fish it out. Ranveer claimed that using his pinky finger to remove the piece of food from her teeth caused him to feel a spark, the effects of which are felt to this day.

While this is absolutely wonderful, a user X was quick to point out how the way he described their first meeting was quite similar to the way he described meeting Anushka Sharma, on Koffee with Karan season three. Ranveer had earlier described how Anushka opened the giant door to one of the offices at the YRF studios and a breeze let her hair flow.

2. Secret engagement

Ranveer has openly stated that six months into their unofficial status (since they never technically used the word “dating”) he knew Deepika was the one. In 2015, the star proposed to Deepika and the duo were secretly engaged until 2018, when they officially tied the knot.

3. The sentence

Imagine a strip of sand surrounded by nothing but water on all sides, and that’s in the Maldives. It was there that Ranveer proposed to Deepika in 2015. The duo went on a trip together and Ranveer had bought a ring which he claimed was beyond his means at the time.

Amidst nothing but each other’s company, Ranveer popped the question and Deepika replied in the affirmative. However, in his admitted immaturity, Ranveer did not ask Deepika’s parents for her hand in marriage, as is customary. This resulted in an awkward fight between Deepika and her mother after a family dinner in Bangalore where the Om Shandi Om star could not contain the news.

4. Date other people

Since this has become a meme, with many calling Ranveer “Bollywood’s Will Smith”, some clarification is necessary. Deepika admitted to Karan Johar on the show that she had just gotten out of some extremely difficult relationships when she met Ranveer and wanted to casually date for a while. He expressed that while the two could technically see other people, they would always find their way back to each other.

This is supported by Ranveer, who claimed that he was aware of the various suitors chasing Deepika – something she had forgotten. In no way is either of them making a big deal about it, nor is it a surprise to either party.

5. Love triangle with Ranbir Kapoor

During the rapid fire segment, Karan asked Ranveer, “In a love triangle with you and Deepika, which male actor would you mind playing as the third character,” the actor chose to name Ranveer.

“Ranbir,” replied the star. “You wanted to fix Sangam with the three of us. What happened to it?’ Karan seemed keen to go ahead with the project and Deepika too gave her stamp of approval with a joke.

6. The wedding video

Ranveer and Deepika revealed their wedding video to the world, five years after their wedding. The four-minute clip, which made Karan cry and yearn for a soul connection, began with Ranveer raising a toast to the couple’s engagement. “If you told me that one day you will marry Deepika Padukone, I would have told you that you are crazy! That was one day and today is another!” says an excited Ranveer to the cheering crowd. “I finally did something right in life.”

The next three and a half minutes captured the precious moments from their exuberant wedding. Several ceremonies were held, with the duo’s families and friends gathering to celebrate. In a heartfelt chat with the videographer, Deepika shared how she felt about tying the knot with her better half. “I was drawn to the person that most people hadn’t seen,” the star said of her husband. “There’s a quiet side to him, there’s a very smart side to him, there’s a very sensitive side to him, I love the fact that he cries. And I love the fact that he was wholehearted.”

He continued, “When all the ceremonies were done, something changed. All of a sudden, there’s a sense of belonging, there’s a sense of responsibility, it just makes it all really solid. You just feel complete.” The actor then smiled and added, “Yeah, it’s done. That’s the right word.”

7. For mental health

The episode, while entertaining, was eye-opening in many ways. Deepika opened up about her struggles with her mental health and how Ranveer stepped into the role of ‘caregiver’. Ranveer was vulnerable about his vulnerability to Deepika’s battle with mental illness. Karan also spoke about experiencing a panic attack, coming home and crying non-stop.

The somber conversation was not only a great insight into the human side of these superstars, but also a vital step towards encouraging others to seek professional help. While these weren’t wild revelations, they were apt and it definitely needed three huge names in Indian cinema to discuss the same with such openness.
