Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that Donald Trump was living in a Russian “misinformation” bubble, responding to scationing comments from the US president on Zelensky’s popularity rating.
The Ukrainian leader also accused Washington of helping to end the international isolation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and said he wanted security guarantees from KIEB allies who could allow the war to end this year.
“Unfortunately, President Trump, for whom we have great respect as the leader of the American people … lives in this misinformation area,” Zelensky told reporters in Kiev, accusing Moscow of misleading Trump.
Asking for presidential elections in Ukraine, which are banned in accordance with military law, Trump said Zelensky was “below the 4%approval rating”.
Zelensky said the figure “comes from Russia”.
A telephone poll of 1,000 people from the respected International Institute of Sociology of KIEB, published Wednesday, found that 57% of respondents trusted Zelensky, while 37% said they did not do so and the rest were undecided.
He vowed to show polls in Trump’s team, as it was “important for us to convey the truth” to the new US administration.
Trump’s comments came after the US and Russia Foreign Ministers in Saudi Arabia-their first personal meeting since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022-to restore relationships and finding a way to end the conflict.
“I believe that the United States has helped Putin escape years of isolation,” Zelensky said in another criticism of Kiev’s most important economic and military supporter.
“All of this does not have a positive impact on Ukraine,” he said of the American Russian approach.
However, Zelensky said he was still pushing for solid “security guarantees” from the West that could allow the ceasefire to be hit in 2025.
“We want security guarantees this year because we want to end the war this year,” he said.
