US Vice President Kamala Harris is the Democratic front-runner to become the party’s presidential nominee if President Joe Biden drops out as a presidential candidate.

Harris has gained favor with Democrats after Biden’s lackluster performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump in June.

This has resulted in Democrats – publicly and privately – pressuring Biden to drop out of the race and target their support to Vice President Harris, who has been named Biden’s running mate.

Polls taken by The economist they also suggest that 79% of Democrats would support Harris if she were to replace Biden in the upcoming November election.

If Harris is chosen as the party’s nominee after Biden withdraws, then it would leave another vacancy and that is that of the nominee.

Here are some candidates Harris could choose as her running mate if Biden steps down and is nominated for the presidential election:

Roy Cooper

Roy Cooper is the Governor of North Carolina and has known Harris since he was the attorney general of North Carolina and California, respectively.

Cooper has also run on a ticket against Trump and won twice. In 2016, he won by opposing a bill that would have banned transgender people from using public restrooms based on their gender, and in 2020, he was re-elected based on his stewardship of the state during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Josh Shapiro

The Governor of Pennsylvania is a popular political figure and strange as many Republicans support him. He has faced several crises during his tenure, including the train incident in East Palestine, Ohio, which borders the state he governs. Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania State 1-95 bridge collapsed in 2023, Shapiro quickly handled this incident and the bridge was immediately rebuilt.

He also beat Trump when the former president sued Pennsylvania to challenge the state’s 2020 election results, but Shapiro secured a legal victory against Trump.

Mark Kelly

Democrat and Senator Mark Kelly is a rare anomaly in that he is a former veteran and astronaut.

The senator made his political debut when his wife and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot in the head and was forced to retire in 2011 due to injuries sustained in the event. This prompted Kelly to advocate for an end to gun violence in the country.

Back in 2020, Biden and Harris went Arizona blue for the Democratic Party, but Kelly won the election that unseated Sen. John McCain, and then two years later beat pro-Trump Republican candidate Blake Masters.

Kelly is certainly a great candidate choice, but he has a strong hold on Arizona and if the Democrats take him out of the state, then they might lose the state.

Tim Walz

Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota is also a veteran. He managed the uproar of the Black Lives Matter movement after the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

During his tenure, he has worked hard for abortion rights in the state. Walz has also worked to provide free school lunches regardless of the incomes of students’ parents.

Walz could also help turn important states like Michigan blue for Democrats, holding down the fort for the party during the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin.
