THE Two broken girls The co-creator said she spent days memorizing lines for the audition to no avail. When she got there for the audition, the comedian noticed something was wrong, with the process eventually making her feel like she was being beaten.
“Everyone is so quiet. There’s no sense of “We’re auditioning. Hi, what’s up? hi how are you Nice to meet you,” he recalls.
He continued: “It’s so uncomfortable. I walk in, I say, “So, where do you want to start first?” And he says, “Oh, no, no, we’re not going to do the scene.” I was like, “Okay, it’s three days of my life.”
He revealed it The Godfather The director asked the actors to improvise: “He would just throw things at me.”
The prompts Cummings was given included a part where she says goodbye to her son going off to war using an English accent.
She was also asked to improvise an Australian accent and confront her husband using it.
It made her feel like she was being punked: “Because I did the Punk’d show, I was like, if I’m being punked, that’s actually genius. I started to polish it off, and then he said, “That was great.” I don’t know where I went. I was just completely out of tune.”
“I’m designing my own head so that nothing happens,” he continued. “Why am I with him? He says, “I’ll be me and we’ll improvise the scene.” I say, “But you don’t [improvise].’ Has anyone ever told you the truth since Apocalypse Now? Right; Did anyone tell you the truth? No.”
The audition left Cummings “so embarrassed” that Coppola even gave her a signed copy of his new book: “She signed it in front of me as if I had appeared at an autograph signing as if I wanted [it]. Like, thank you. And then he gave me a bottle of Francis Ford Coppola wine. It was so humiliating — that’s all [word] — and so confused at the time.”
