A new report suggested that in 2022, 1% of children in the United States suffered from long-term Covid-19 symptoms, as researchers showed that those infected with the virus can have many symptoms for months.
According to the report recently published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 92% of those 17 and under in the past year harbored antibodies indicating a previous infection with Covid-19.
The report’s authors, however, also noted the rarity of long-term Covid among young people, particularly those under 12.
In comparison, another CDC report on a similar topic revealed that 7% of adults in the US suffered from prolonged Covid with about half still suffering from the condition.
Long-term Covid is questioned as he feels the symptoms of Covid-19 for at least three months after testing positive for the virus
Symptoms of long-term Covid are problems thinking, headaches, changes in smell or taste, shortness of breath, depression or anxiety.
According to a report, long-term Covid was more likely to be detected in people aged 35 to 49, and the ratio was found to be higher in women than in men.
The condition was also found to be more prevalent in rural residents, with low incomes being common.
Data were obtained from the National Center for Health Statistics. Interview-based child data also highlighted the ratio of girls likely to have symptoms to boys.
There is no cure for long-term Covid symptoms, however, health professionals urge people with the condition to seek treatment for their symptoms.
The CDC said in its recommendations: “The best way to prevent long-term Covid is to protect yourself and others from becoming infected” with the virus that causes covid-19 by staying up-to-date on vaccinations and avoiding close contact with those who have or may have the disease.
