Washington: Several thousand of Washington residents on Saturday went on to ask US President Donald Trump to end the development of national guard troops patrolling the capital’s streets.
The protesters in March “We are all DC”, who included the immigrants and supporters of Palestine, chant slogans that denounce Trump and brought posters, some reading “Trump must go now”, “free dc” and “treat Tyranny”.
“I’m here to protest the possession of DC,” Alex Laufer said. “We are opposed to the authoritarian regime and we must take the federal police and the National Guard from our streets.”
Claiming that the crime was taking the city, Trump last month developed the troops to “restore law, order and public security”. Trump also set the Metropolitan Police Department of the Capital Market under direct federal control and sent the law enforcement staff, including members of immigration and customs enforcement for city streets.
However, data from the Ministry of Justice showed violent crime in 2024, hit 30 years low in Washington, a self -governing federal area under the jurisdiction of Congress, USA.
The National Guard serves as a militia that responds to 50 states, except when it fell into a federal service. The DC National Guard reports directly to the president.
“What they are trying to do on DC is what they are trying to do with other dictatorships,” said Casey, who refused to give his surname. “They try DC, and if people tolerate it enough, they will do it in more and more areas. So we have to stop it while we can still.”
More than 2,000 troops, including the six democratic states, patrol the city. It is not clear when their mission will end, although the army this week expanded orders for the DC National Guard until November 30.
Washington’s Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed a trial for the courts on Thursday from preventing the development of troops, claiming that it was unconstitutional and violated many federal laws.
However, some residents welcomed the National Guard and called for the troops to develop in the least wealthy parts of the city where the crime is ruthless. The National Guard was mostly visible in the center and tourist areas.
Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser praised the increase in the federal law enforcement staff on the city, but hopes the mission of the National Guard will end soon. Bowser said there was a sharp decline in crime, including carjackings from the increase. This week, the mayor signed a mandate that required the city to coordinate with the federal enforcement of the law.
