As Indian star and former captain Virat Kohli celebrates his 35th birthday today, the Indian team has expressed their admiration for their teammate.
Hailed as ‘King Kohli’ by his cricket fans, the 35-year-old cricketer is famous for his exceptional cricketing talent in cricket.
Kohli, who hails from New Delhi and celebrates his birthday on November 5, has been hailed as one of the best batsmen in world cricket, with his discipline and prowess making him an unrivaled force in the game.
The right-handed batsman will take on South Africa at the Eden Gardens today, looking to maintain India’s unbeaten record in the 2023 World Cup.
To celebrate his birthday, the Men In Blue praised Kohli’s commitment to the sport and his professionalism when representing Team India in a video released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Instagram.
“His hunger and passion for the game is unmatched. I haven’t seen anyone who is as hungry and as passionate as him,” said young Indian batsman Shubman Gill, talking about his senior colleague in the video.
Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah praised the cricketer’s dedication to the game.
“That fire and dedication to the game after so long hasn’t gone down. It keeps rising. That’s something I can also learn from and everyone who watches the game, I’m sure, learns a lot from,” he said.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya takes inspiration from the culture of fitness, Virat’s bond and presence in the game.
“He has the culture of fitness. He has the bond. It’s always there in the game. And that’s something that I think will inspire, obviously a lot of us, but at the same time many millions of fans,” Pandya described.
Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who was also part of the video, credited the batting with changing the way Indians think about cricket.
“It has changed the DNA of thinking around Indian cricket. How a batsman should perceive it. How he should prepare for a game,” Ashwin said.
Rahul Dravid, former Indian batsman and current team coach, praised Kohli for being a “legend” and setting a benchmark for the generation of cricketers.
“Virat is a legend of the game and especially of this format [ODI]. All forms of the game, but especially this one. The performances; the way he was able to finish the matches, his level of performance over the years probably set a benchmark for the generation of cricketers,” said the former India batsman.
