Islamabad: Pakistani pilgrims who intend to start the UMRAH pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia face obstacles to obtaining the necessary health certifications due to a lack of vaccine, The news reported on Wednesday.

The kingdom has imposed compulsory meningitis and requirements of polio vaccination for Umrah pilgrims. However, the meningitis vaccine is not available throughout the country, causing significant discomfort between future pilgrims, pharmacy owners and officials.

Both companies (s) and (p) of companies have been overcome for weeks. This has led to black market sales, with the vaccine being sold for over RS10,000.

Despite the demand, neither the federal nor the provincial health authorities have taken measures to address the lack, further worsening the crisis.

Reports of fake vaccines administered were added to chaos. Last week, fake vaccines were supposed to have been given to pilgrims at the Federal Government’s Polyclinic Hospital in Islamabad.

“There is no system for regulating the registration of the meningitis vaccine and the certificates are handed by hand when people bring their vaccine,” an employee said, warning that this increases the risk of ineffective or fake vaccines used.

An employee of the Ministry of National Health, Regulations and Coordination Services confirmed the unavailability of meningitis vaccines at national level and said: “People are now approaching the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for this vaccine, but neither produces nor manages it.”

Health experts have expressed concern about the authenticity of vaccines currently granted and have called for immediate government intervention.

A senior official of the Pakistani Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) said the meningitis vaccine was previously considered a “slow movement” element, resulting in limited stock. However, the increase in demand after Saudi Arabia’s mandate has caused a lack of national.

“Thousands of vials are expected to be introduced next week to face the crisis,” the employee assured.

“At present, over 13,000 vials are available across the country, but we have directed importers to bring additional supplies to meet the growing demand.”

The employee also stated that the drap is actively investigating the falsification vaccines and is committed to persecuting those involved in such practices.

The synthesis of challenges for pilgrims is the cumbersome process of obtaining polio vaccination certificates. While oral vaccine drops (OPV) can be administered to any health unit, only health officers (DHOS) are authorized to update the status of vaccination in the National Wase of Database and Registration System (NADRA).

This congestion has caused long delays, as DHOS struggles to keep up with the large volume of certification applications.

“Polio is not even the responsibility of NIH, but are transferred to the certification process,” said a federal health ministry official, suggesting that provincial governments should create comprehensive mechanisms for travel -related vaccinations.

The additional fee RS100 charged by Nadra for certification has been charged further pilgrims.

“From vaccine importers and retailers to certification publishers, pilgrims have become a source of profit for every Pakistani institution,” a health official mourned.

Health experts and officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs have urged the Federal Ministry of Health to take rapid action to tackle the vaccination crisis.

They emphasized the need to ensure the availability of authentic meningitis vaccines at affordable prices and called for the improvement of the process of certification of polio.

The extension of the number of authorized staff to issue and inform the certificates is also recommended to relieve the delay.

“A central and effective vaccination system for meningitis, polio and other journey -related requirements should be developed, with proper arrangement and monitoring to prevent exploitation,” one employee said.

They also suggested that they resign from the RS100 NADRA fee for vaccination certificates of polio to facilitate the financial burden of pilgrims.

As the Umrah season is evolving, lack of planning and coordination has left thousands of pilgrims at risk.

Experts warn that without immediate intervention, the crisis will worsen, further complicating the journey for those who fulfill their religious obligations.
