Tyson Fury retires from boxing after second loss to Oleksandr Usyk

Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing, just under a month after his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk in a highly anticipated rematch.

The undefeated heavyweight champion shared the news in a video he posted on Instagram, along with the message: “Thank you, it’s been a blast. Thanks to everyone who’s helped along the way! Happy New Year, Jesus is king now and forever.”

In the video, Fury said: “Hey everyone. I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every minute of it and I” I’ll end with this: The Dick Turpin put on a mask to be good to you.

Fury’s announcement follows his second loss to Usyk, which marked the only two losses of his career. The rematch, held in Saudi Arabia, saw Fury lose by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 116-112 in favor of Usyk.

This is not the first time Fury has announced his retirement. Ahead of his 2022 fight with British heavyweight Dillian Whyte, Fury announced his retirement from the sport, claiming he had “£150m in the bank and nothing to prove to anyone”. However, after winning the fight, he reversed his decision, stating that he would retire undefeated like legendary boxer Rocky Marciano. Shortly after, he returned to the ring for a third match against Derek Chisora.

After his recent loss to Usyk, Fury remained noncommittal about his boxing future, telling reporters: “You might do it, you might not. Who knows? We’ll talk about it next year.”

Fury also expressed frustration with the judging of the fight, claiming that Usyk was given “an early Christmas present” by the judges, despite his belief that he had won both fights. “I’ll always feel a bit harsh,” he added. “When you don’t get the knockout, that’s what happens. You can’t guarantee a win.”

Fury, who had spent three months preparing for the rematch, chose not to see his wife Paris and their seven children during that time, saying he was looking forward to a quiet Christmas at home.
