- The 16 -month -old girl was infected with the Tank Mullazai Union Council.
- The 24 -month -old girl has positively confirmed to the northern Waziristan.
- Fifteen cases mentioned in KP, six in Sindh.
The Regional Reference Laboratory for the Elimination of Poliolelitis at the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, confirmed two new cases of polio by South Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, one from District Tank and the other by District North Waziristan.
Recent cases of polio include a 16-month-old girl from the Mullazai Union Council, District Tank and a 24-month-old girl from the Miran Shah-3 Union Council, District North Waziristan. With these detections, the total number of cases of polio in Pakistan in 2025 reached 23 – including 15 cases from KP, six from Sindh and one of Punjab and Gilgit Baltistan.
Polio is an extremely infectious and incurable disease that can cause lifelong paralysis. The only effective protection is through repetitive doses of the oral polio vaccine (OPV) for each child under five during each campaign, along with the timely completion of all usual immunerations.
Despite significant progress, the ongoing detection of polio cases, especially in southern KP, remains serious concern. He emphasizes that children in difficult access areas and those with low acceptance of the vaccine are still at risk.
However, the National and District Emergency Business Centers (EOCs) take all possible measures to ensure the implementation of high quality vaccination campaigns.
To discontinue the transmission of polio, the National Emergency Business Center for the elimination of polio has developed a powerful vaccination campaign program for the upcoming low transmission period.
The first campaign of the season will take place from September 1 to September 7, 2025, while in south KP, the campaign will begin on September 15. More than 28 million children under the age of 5 will receive polio falls on door -to -door vaccination campaign.
The aim is to ensure that every child in these areas is vaccinated against polio as part of continuing efforts to rapidly enhance immunity and treat existing protection gaps. Parents and carers are strongly invited to ensure that their children receive the polio vaccine during this campaign.
The elimination of polio is a common responsibility. While front -line health workers continue to provide critical vaccines to children, parents and carers play an important role, ensuring that their children receive all recommended doses of the polio vaccine and complete their usual immunerations.
Communities can protect their children by actively supporting vaccination efforts, offsetting misinformation and encouraging others to vaccinate.
